A Drinking Club With A Hiking Problem
The Happy Hour Hiking Club is about…well, hiking, during a happy hour. Sort of. We “hike,” then enjoy a happy hour. We prefer easy hikes – we aren’t here to be heroes. We explore new neighborhoods…or familiar ones. There really aren’t a lot of rules. This “club” doesn’t even have a President or Board of Directors. Just a membership of drinkers. After the “hike,” we explore the bars that define those neighborhoods.
There’s no cost for the hike, drinks are on you.
It’s a hodge-podge group of us. Join us for one or all of them! You should be reasonably fit. Be sure to join the email list below to learn how to sign up and ensure a spot, we can only accommodate a limited number of hikers for each hike.
HAPPY HOUR HIKING CLUB IS BACK!
And what a hike it was, our first in 11 months, maybe longer. To keep things safe, we limited the size of Saturday (10/24) evening’s Rose Bowl hike and insisted on masks. Everyone played along.
Thanks to the first-timers and Happy Hour Hiking Club vets who took part. We had folks come all the way from Calabasas, Santa Monica, Shadow Hills and other distant locations around the Southland, on a night the Dodgers were playing in the World Series. Like me, they knew the games last five hours, and we were all home in time for that unforgettable ending.
It was a cool evening, perfect for a three-mile hike. The Rose Bowl was buzzing with a Hulu Halloween event, and some car concert. Kind of a hassle to park, but everyone hung in there. I’ve always appreciated the good humor and fellowship of this group.
There was a moment of sadness when we finished and couldn’t retreat to some saloon for a post-hike beverage.
But here’s the good news: I feel if we keep the group small, we could do a safe, BYOB tailgate, again at the Rose Bowl, where there is a small, out-of-the-way park that would accommodate us after our hike. We’re going to give it a shot – be sure you’re signed up for the newsletter, we’re only accepting the first 50 RSVPs.
We’ll have more hikes soon.

“The great outdoors are great but a dark bar is even better.”– not sure, but it sounds wise
